Christian Education Goals

Our primary goal is for each child to learn the basics of Christian belief in order to influence decision-making and daily life from childhood into adulthood.

The Christian Education Program seeks to motivate children to faith, not through fear, but through love.  Emphasis is placed on God’s love, forgiveness and support in difficult times, so that children understand they are precious to God – even when they have made mistakes.  Our program teaches that Christians are responsible for their actions, and that they should strive to live by Christ’s teachings.

 Church School Basics

 When

Church School begins on “Rally Day” (September 11, 2011) and runs through “Children’s Day" (June 3, 2012).  Classes meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 during Worship Service.  New families are welcome to start at any time throughout the year.

*Church school is not held during Falmouth Public School vacation weeks or on holiday weekends such as Columbus Day, Thanksgiving,  Martin Luther King Day and Memorial Day.  Additionally, Church School is not offered during the summer months, however child care for infants through Grade 2 is available every Sunday during worship service.

 Where

Students in grades 1 – 12 go to Worship with their parents for the first part of the service.  On leaving the Sanctuary, the children meet their teachers in the Lower Lobby and then proceed to their classrooms.

 Who

All children are welcome, including guests.  New families are welcome to start at any time throughout the year.

 What

The Workshop Rotation Model Church School program (for grades 1 – 6) teaches a single Bible story or concept, in-depth, over a 4 to 6 week period through child-friendly multimedia workshops such as:

The Computer Lab Cooking
The Art Studio Games
Puppetry/Drama Video/Movies

Children are grouped according to grade. Each week the classes “rotate” to a different workshop.

Rotation themes for the 2011/2012 school year include:

Respect: The Golden Rule and the Great Commandment Faith and Science
Abraham and Sarah Jesus and the Children
In the Manger (Christmas) Peter's Story (Easter)
Rebekah

 Nursery/Pre-K/Kindergarten

Children are welcomed in their classroom at 9:45 AM and will come together to learn prayers, read simple Bible stories and engage in spirited discussions.  Art projects, songs and sign language are incorporated into the lesson each week.  Games, such as musical chairs, concentration and follow-the-leader reinforce the curriculum, creating a lively learning atmosphere.

Grades 1 – 6 (Workshop Rotation Model Curriculum)

Elementary  students focus on a single Bible concept over a 4 – 6 week period and “rotate” through a series of workshops including Art, Movies, Cooking, Games and Computers.  This program is designed so that children are inspired and have fun while engaging in an interactive exploration of their faith.

Teen Program  (Grades 7 -12)

Students begin in worship and leave with the Church School to meet in the Teen Room, with Dan Silver, for lively spiritual and youth related discussions. Activities include breakfast gatherings, service projects, fundraisers, pizza parties and interfaith programs

 Confirmation (Grade 9)

Ninth grade students meet weekly with their Confirmation leader during the Sunday worship hour in preparation for Confirmation in June.
